These three pieces are quite distinct in character, but all share a free-ranging tonality and an interest in descending chromatic motion. The third requires a page turner who can also show divisions of time to indicate to the performers when to change the musical textures. Composed while I was a student at Victoria University of Wellington in 1988, this piece won the University Composers' Competition of that year. The performers on that occasion were Ross James Carey and Dan Poynton.
