This music was written for Christchurch violinist Belinda Bunt on the eve of her departure for London in the early 1970s. The middle movement, 'Bird Song', is a fragment inspired by a thrush that sat in a walnut tree close to the composer's bedroom, each waking morning for most of her childhood years. The fragment was redeveloped and enlarged in a later work 'Trio Sound'.
