About
This is the first New Zealand recording dedicated entirely to works by Christchurch-born composer Christopher Blake, whose music has been commissioned by all the major performing organisations of New Zealand.
These four orchestral works, one symphony and three tone poems, were all written during the 1990s. Three draw their inspiration from places, poetry and people within New Zealand, while We All Fall Down is a threnody remembering the children of the wars of our time.
Actor Geraldine Brophy nominated this as the CD she would choose to take if marooned on a desert island, noting how "it evokes New Zealand on an epic scale for me, the infinite beauty of the smallest water droplet from the fern leaf to the magnum rage of the volcanic chain."
