About
Born in 1870, Alfred Hill was New Zealand's first fully professional composer. He lived in Wellington for over thirty years where he conducted, performed and composed before moving to Australia.
This recording by the New Zealand Piano Quartet is the first NZ recording of music by Alfred Hill, the composer who has long been known across the Tasman as the "father of Australian music." Hill's Three Pieces for Piano Quartet are previously unpublished and unrecorded.
