Anthony Ritchie's The Hanging Bulb was, for the composer, a rite of passage partly inspired by Philip Clairmont's paintings. A continuous movement, divided into four sections, the work incorporates repeated rhythms and passages of lyrical introspection. Hanging light bulbs have been associated with despair and obsession in the world of art and in the real world. They became a significant image to the composer at the time of writing this piece.
This revised version was adapted for study at NCEA Level 3.
