"Kirsten Strom is an impressive young composer, conductor and writer.

Her music has been performed here and internationally – she's represented New Zealand at the Asian Composers League Festival in Taiwan in 2018, festivals in Italy and France, and she caught the ear of top international composer Kaija Saariaho who’s praised her works.

Kirsten was Young Composer in Residence with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in 2018, and one work involved the orchestra participating with smartphones.

She was recently awarded an Edwin Carr Foundation Scholarship for $25,000, and talked with Upbeat about what receiving the award means to her."
