Douglas Lilburn's musical influences are commonly listed as Vaughan Williams, Sibelius, Schubert, Bartok, Schoenberg and Copland. Could, composer/pianist William Green wonders, Lilburn has also drawn musical stimulus from his teacher Ernest Jenner, and could an absence of Jenner from this list be attributed to a falling-out between the two men? Mark Menzies provides live excerpts from piano works from Lilburn and Jenner to illustrate William's thesis in this Resound film from the 2017 Composers Association of New Zealand conference.
