Principally, this concert is a chance to commemorate the passing of the great Karlheinz Stockhausen, after whom NICAI's the contemporary performance ensemble is named.
The concert opens with Leonie Holmes' cello solo, The Fourth Station, performed by Cameron Stuart. The work featured in an earlier exhibition/performance "The Stations of the Cross":http://sounz.org.nz/events/show/628 . Two student works, Alex Bennett's I and My Father Are One and Alex Taylor's duet I am Dead But I Know/The Dead Are Not Like This were also part of this previous projects. The concert will also include Chris Cree Brown's Watertable from Luca Manghi (flute).
Two new works written in tribute to Stockhausen will be premiered: John Rimmer's Adieu KS for violin (Wendy Yang) and Ascend, a septet from John Elmsly.
Eve de Castro Robinson's Hau for voice and crystal glass, will be premiered by Karen Hunter. This work is written in memory of Mahinarangi Tocker, who died just a few weeks ago.
