A gourmet picnic, sharing good wine and going to a classical music concert are all romantic ways to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day. The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra combines all three at the Mazda Summer Matinée.
Fanfare for the Phil by their Composer in Residence "Gareth Farr":/contributor/composer/1040 will introduce a packed programme of classics from the APO and their guest artists Conal Coad (bass) and Kiwi band Evermore.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the matinée concert which is the orchestra’s main fundraiser for the year. The day includes a light-hearted Best Dressed Competition and raffle tickets will also be available for sale with prizes including a weekend trip to Melbourne to see the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and a weekend at Orongo Bay Homestead in the Bay of Islands with use of a brand new Mazda car.

Tickets to the Mazda Summer Matinée are available now from the APO Ticket Office, Ph 09 623 1052, 427 Dominion Rd, Balmoral (9.30pm to 4pm) or you can purchase tickets online at www.apo.co.nz
A picnic hamper, including lunch and two 187ml bottles of Villa Maria Estate wine, and parking is included in the $75 ticket price. Children’s hampers are also available for $25 and a bus will run from Philharmonia Hall on Dominion Road on the day, returning after the concert.
