The Auckland Philharmonia, conducted by Tecwyn Evans, presents the world premiere of Gareth Farr's Ex Stasis, featuring Deborah Wai Kapohe, Mere Boynton, James Egglestone and George Henare.
Gareth is the APO Composer in Residence and while Ex Stasis is associated with an ongoing operatic project, it also stands alone as an independent piece.
In his programme notes Gareth writes: 'An exstasy, in its original sense, means 'standing outside of oneself' - it is being in a state of removal from your normal physical and mental experience and is a momentary experience of a different plane of existence ... Rather than telling a story, Ex Stasis is more about a moment in time, a meditation or an overlapping collection of conversations, myths and stories.'
