Stroma and SOUNZ present a major tribute to New Zealand's most important and influential composer, Douglas Lilburn, on the day of his 100th birthday.
Conducted by Hamish McKeich, Stroma will premiere Nine Echoes, a collection which features nine new works written by New Zealand composers. Each work responds to one of Lilburn's Nine Short Pieces for piano, which will also be played at this concert by pianist Emma Sayers. Anyone who loves Lilburn, or wants to experience new contemporary music in small, perfectly-formed bites, should attend.
Nine Echoes features work by a diverse cast of composers including Eve de Castro-Robinson, John Elmsly, Michael Norris, Dorothy Ker, Salina Fisher, Sarah Ballard, Louise Webster, Glen Downie, and Stephen Clothier.
The Lilburn Trust will also present the annual Lilburn Lecture in conjunction with the National Library of New Zealand on Wednesday 4 November, featuring Chris Bourke who is the 2015 Lilburn Research Fellow at the Alexander Turnbull Library.
