Soundscapes | NZ String Quartet Tour | Cambridge

Concert

The New Zealand String Quartet bring a programme of fresh and familiar classical works to Cambridge. Plus, a special performance with young musicians from Youth Orchestra Waikato.

As part of their 2024 season, Soundscapes, the NZSQ is taking chamber music outside of the traditional concert hall to explore the way music connects us with our surroundings. From eco-sanctuaries to art galleries, to cozy and eclectic community centres, imaginative programmes collide headfirst with unique spaces creating epic, multi-sensory experiences.

The New Zealand String Quartet recently welcomed a wonderful new musician to the ensemble, violinist Peter Clark. This concert is one of his first performing with the Quartet as second violinist. Come along to give Peter a big NZSQ welcome!

The Quartet regularly mentor young musicians in Youth Orchestra Waikato. Leading up to this concert, the Quartet will have spent the weekend in masterclasses and workshops with these talented young musicians, so why not show you all what they can do? The concert will begin with a special performance of Mascagani, Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana performed by musicians from YOW alongside the Quartet.

Concert Programme
Mascagani, Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana (performed with YOW)
Claire Cowan, Celestia > < Terralia
Beethoven, Op. 135 in F major
Debussy, String Quartet in G minor, Op. 10

Whether you're a classical music fan or looking to try something new this concert is not to be missed.

No Need to be an Expert The concert programme, crafted in the NZSQ’s signature style, aims to engage audiences of all levels of familiarity with chamber music. Each piece of music is preceded by a lively and informative introduction delivered by the Quartet members themselves. These introductions seek to shed light on the stories behind the music, making it an enriching experience suitable for all audiences.
