The imagination of many great composers has been fired by other types of music, and this is celebrated in this year’s Newstalk ZB Series. Folk music has inspired composers for as long as music has been written down. Jazz, of course, grew from American folk music, and countless composers have been drawn to its free-spirited excitement, as well as the more melancholy mood of the blues. In the third concert, we celebrate the kaleidoscope of the exotic – music exotic both for its composers and exotic for us.
