Marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Douglas Lilburn, "the elder statesman of New Zealand music", this concert opens with a work he described as a 'song of praise' expressing what New Zealand meant to him: moving from a chorale-like theme, to the darkness of the oceans, to exhilarating landforms, and returning to the chorale.
