“Dave Flynn is a masterful guitarist” - Sing Out! Magazine
Award-winning composer/guitarist Dave Flynn is touring New Zealand again with a new genre-jumping show of virtuoso guitar music.
Originally from Ireland, Dave is now a NZ resident and this is his first concert in South Waikato.
If you saw his previous NZ Tour 'Around the World in 80 Minutes' you'll know that Dave likes to take his audiences on an eclectic musical journey across the globe.
In 'Genre-Jumping Guitar' he takes the concept further, mixing traditional music from his native Ireland with an array of music styles, drawing out expressive and unusual colours from his nylon string guitar.
Expect music by Brazilian legends Villa-Lobos and Jobim, Spanish guitar classics, a jazz standard, some folk blues, African and Indian improvisations and some of his own acclaimed guitar works, recently published internationally by Mel Bay.
The concert is very close to St. Patrick's Day, so Dave will celebrate Ireland's national holiday with some of his beautiful classical guitar arrangements of Irish music.
Whitianga Informer Review 2018: “The Coghill Theatre in Coghill Street, Whitianga was the ideal location on Friday evening last week for Irish guitarist, Dave Flynn’s first performance of his current New Zealand tour. The appreciative audience was entertained in the intimate setting of the theatre to a performance that took them in the first half to all the corners of Ireland and in the second half to all the corners of the world. It was clear that Dave is a master guitarist”
