Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music begins its series of events to celebrate the 100th birthday and the hugely significant legacy of Douglas Lilburn.
At 7pm, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, in the Music School Courtyard, Euan Murdoch, Director of the New Zealand School of Music, will officially open the Lilburn Studios, the refurbished electro-acoustic studios that are still a fundamental part of the Composition Programme at NZSM.
This will be followed at 7.15pm by an hour-long concert in the Adam Concert Room featuring readings from Associate Professor Robert Hoskins’s book Memories of Early Years and Other Writings, with commentaries. Interspersed with these will be performances of Lilburn’s piano music by Senior Lecturer Jian Liu, the song cycle “Sings Harry” for baritone and piano with Roger Wilson and Gillian Bibby, and chamber music by the New Zealand String Quartet.
