Ensemble Liaison is a unique chamber music partnership formed in 2006 between David Griffiths (clarinet), Svetlana Bogosavljevic (cello) and Timothy Young (piano).
“A program that draws inspiration from folk song and dance, we open with some beautifully arranged songs of Britten. Turning then to Greece, the Three Island Songs by John Psathas are described by the composer himself as lively and contagious dances. De Falla’s ever popular set of traditional Spanish songs display gypsy and flamenco flavours with the haunting Asturiana from Northern Spain forming the central movement. Mahler’s final section from his Symphony no.4 reveals his inspiration through texts of old German song. We conclude with Britten’s exhilarating and sensuous settings of songs on texts by Arthur Rimbaud in a fabulous arrangement by Iain Grandage.”
