This month and next, we’re teaming up with former Mobil Song Quest winner Jared Holt to give the premiere performances of a new song cycle by NZ composer Janet Jennings. In Memoriam is a setting of four poems by poet and soldier Edward Thomas, who was killed in the Battle of Arras in 1917.
Jared’s freelance singing career has seen him perform principal baritone roles at Covent Garden, Glyndebourne Festival and Teatro Giuseppe Verdi Trieste, as well as for Opera Australia and Opera New Zealand. He has recently made the move to singing tenor and is delighted to be premiering Janet Jennings’s moving song cycle for tenor and string quartet.
Also featured on the programme will be Puccini’s elegiac Crisantemi, Stravinsky’s Concertino for String Quartet of 1920 and Beethoven’s epic opus 132 Quartet, written in celebration of life itself shortly after the composer’s recovery from a life-threatening illness.
