Discovery concerts are a vital component in introducing orchestral repertoire to young people. The great orchestral composers’ masterworks come alive in a concert with the full symphony orchestra, and students can enjoy the visual and musical elements of live orchestral performance. Discovery this year offers a stunning line-up of cast and music:
-Two “firsts” by great composers: Mozart Symphony No. 1, Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 1 - NZ Ukekele champion Steven Nai playing Bohemian Rhapsody with the APO
a new work by 2013 APO Rising Star Auckland composer Celeste Oram
2013 APO Young Soloist of the Year Bryony Gibson-Cornish performs Suite for Viola and Orchestra written for her by New Zealand composer Philip Norman. Bryony returns to Auckland for this concert from Juilliard where she is currently studying for her Masters.
