The Southern Sinfonia presents the world premiere of Anthony Ritchie's violin concerto.
Tecwyn Evans | Conductor Bella Hristova | Violin
Programme: Bach (arr. Stokowski) - Toccata and Fugue Anthony Ritchie - Violin Concerto - world première Sibelius - Symphony No. 1
Bulgarian Bella Hristova, now based in the USA, won the 2007 Michael Hill International Violin Competition and she is a firm favourite with New Zealand audiences. To celebrate NZ Music Month, we will be performing the world première of the Violin Concerto written especially for Bella Hristova by Dunedin composer Anthony Ritchie to show off her "impeccable sound and technique". Sibelius' first symphony evokes images of vast, majestic Finnish landscapes with sweeping melodies and grand Romantic harmonies. Marshalling the Sinfonia's forces will be ex-Dunedin conductor Tecwyn Evans who is now based in Europe and who also conducts in the UK as well as Australia and New Zealand.
