175 East, one of New Zealand’s foremost contemporary music ensembles, presents concerts of exploratory, experimental music. Since its formation in 1996, the ensemble has performed over 230 pieces, including numerous world and New Zealand premieres, and over 50 pieces have been specifically written for it.
This concert, conducted by Hamish McKeich, will feature the world premiere of a major new work by Dorothy Ker (NZ), alongside Ker's Le kaleidoscope d'obscurite… (2004), a piece inhabiting 'a shadowy space between material definition and immateriality'. The concert will also include extraordinary pieces by Philip Brownlee (NZ) and James Saunders (UK). It promises to be a fascinating, challenging aural experience.
