New Zealand String Quartet & Jonathan Lemalu

Concert

This concert places New Zealand music in an international context: two of the country’s foremost composers, John Psathas (of Greek extraction) and Lyell Cresswell (long-time resident in Scotland), are represented – in the case of the latter, with the world première of Kotetetete – and the celebrated NZ-born baritone Jonathan Lemalu makes a welcome return to the Festival to sing Butterworth’s Love Blows as the Wind Blows and Barber’s Dover Beach in the first of the New Zealand String Quartet’s pair of concerts. Bartók’s renowned String Quartet No 4 concludes the programme.
