Tom Woods, soloist David Geringas (cello) and Christchurch Symphony Orchestra perform Antonin Dvoøák’s romantic concerto, one of the pinnacles of the cello repertoire and a display of nationalistic pride as Dvoøák celebrates the rhythms and sounds of his native land. Debussy displays his sophistication with a glittering impressionistic seascape while Douglas Lilburn's tribute to the land and people of New Zealand, written in England in 1940 but not performed in this country until 1959, is often described as one of the watershed moments in New Zealand music.
