The Harvest Suite

Concert

One of this country’s most eclectic, creative and renowned composers has found a musical match in an Australian multi-instrumentalist and experimental electronic music pioneer.

John Psathas is best known for composing music heard by billions at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, but he has been an outstanding and original voice in contemporary classical music for three decades. His distinctive sound has found international acclaim, combining the harmony and improvisatory feel of jazz, the rhythmic drive of rock and the repetitive textures of minimalism into a style all his own.

Adelaide-born Adam Page is a Downstage 'frequent flier' and winner of Best Music and Best Solo Show at the 2009 NZ Fringe. Adam is at the forefront of a new and unique style of performing, recording live instruments into loop pedals and spontaneously composing intricate grooves in many different styles. He’s also a gregarious and colourful stage performer, described as “side-splittingly funny” with “a wicked musical sense of humour”.

Avid appreciators of each other’s work Psathas & Page are delighted to be finally collaborating on a a brand new project entitled The Harvest Suite, a beautiful soundscape in four parts using Solo Saxophone and looping pedals.

Downstage will host the exclusive world premiere of The Harvest Suite on Sat 13 Feb at 8pm.
