The BIG SING Finale is an annual three-day festival of choral singing sponsored by the New Zealand Choral Federation. More than 20 choirs take part, all of which were recommended by commentators from the hundreds of choirs which performed in regional festivals in June.
The choirs present repertoire from various genres and categories including New Zealand works. In addition, "SOUNZ supports a student composition prize":http://sounz.org.nz/content/BIG_SING. "The 2010 winning work, Te Atua by Awhina Waimotu":http://sounz.org.nz/news_articles/show/369, will be performed at the Gala Concert by the Sweet Sixteen choir from Aorere College, Auckland before Awhina is presented with her prize. The New Zealand Secondary Students Choir will also perform at this Finale Gala Concert on Wednesday 11 August evening.
The NZCF has introduced a Guest Choir Programme for choirs that haven't been part of the Finale in the last two years. In this enriched programme, up to four guest choirs will be selected to attend the Finale where they will attend special choral clinics that focus on each choir - to be run this year by John Rosser and Robert Wiremu. Guest choirs will also attend the Finale recital sessions, perform a recital, and participate in both the massed item and the Gala Concert.
Some of the New Zealand works presented by choirs during the Recital sessions and the Finale Concert are listed below.
