This concert is the culmination of the 43rd National Concerto Competition presented by the Christchurch Civic Music Council. After two days of preliminaries and a semi-final, 44 contestants have been whittled down to three finalists for the National Concerto Competition. Selected by adjudicators Vesa-Matti Leppänen, Charmian Gadd and Bridget Douglas they are:
Harry Ellerm: Christchurch will perform Vieuxtemps Violin Concerto No.5 Op37.
Edward King: Auckland; Shostakovich Cello Concerto No.1 Op107.
Emma Yoon: Christchurch; Barber Violin Concerto Op14.
The finalists will perform with Christchurch Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir William Southgate who have included Pruden's Westland Overture in the programme.
