The NZSO present Made in New Zealand, their annual contribution to New Zealand Music Month. In 2010 the theme threading through the programme is the evocation of bright colours: the vibrant Aegean in "Arnold Trowell":http://sounz.org.nz/contributor/composer/1717 's The Waters of Peneios, Claire Cowan's the legend of the trojan bird and John Psathas' Seikilos, and the paintings of Marc Chagall in the Ross Harris/Vincent O'Sullivan collaboration: The Floating Bride, The Crimson Village.
[It is interesting to note that these works by John, Claire and Ross have all been part of the NZSO-SOUNZ Readings project.]
Conductor Tecwyn Evans, himself a New Zealand composer, will also lead the NZSO in the premiere of Ross Harris' Violin Concerto No. 1. Soloist will be the illustrious English violinist, Anthony Marwood.
The concert will also feature live video projection behind the orchestra for some of these works. Video artist Dnation – also known as Robert Appierdo – will create a 'live cinema experience' and brilliantly light up the Orchestra by projecting large-scale moving images onto a screen behind the musicians as they play. You can get a preview of what Dnation is preparing "through this 30sec video clip":http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150167449280487 of a fragment of Claire Cowan's Legend of the Trojan Bird.
