Landscapes is the theme of this concert from the NZSO conducted by Alexander Shelley. From Aaron Copland's iconic expression of America, Appalachian Spring Suite through to Beethoven's Symphony 6 The Pastoral, described as "a love letter to nature: brooks murmur, birds sing, shepherds dance, all of it faithfully translated for the orchestra".
In between we have two new works: Jenifer Higdon's Percussion Concerto performed by its dedicatee Colin Currie (pictured) , and ex-pat composer Lyell Cresswell's I Paesaggi dell'anima (Landscapes of the Soul), in which the landscape is imaginary, a journey inwards, a revealing reflection of the artist.
