The Auckland Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Peter Scholes, celebrate their 10th birthday this year: "a decade of music making which has spanned the middle ages through to music composed just days before the performance. There has been song, dance, story telling, serious music, fun music, improvisation and many surprises."
This Birthday Bash concert is no different! There will be two intervals and the middle section of the concert will be combined with the launch of "Remember Parihaka":http://sounz.org.nz/manifestations/show/10246, the ACO's recording of Anthony Ritchie's works for chamber orchestra. As well as Peter Scholes' Garage Sale, the ACO will play Anthony Ritchie's Whakatipua. Originally a string quartet, this is the first time that it will be performed in the string orchestra version.
The concert's highly eclectic programme, with special guests sopranos Emma Sloman and Claire Scholes, includes Strauss, Mozart, Gershwin, Peter Scholes, Anthony Ritchie, Daugherty's What’s that Spell?, Just a Gigolo (by Caesar,Casucci,Brammer arr. Penny Dodd) and, most appropriately, Peter Heidrich's Happy Birthday Variations.
