Irwansyah Harahap and Rithaony Hutajulu perform North Sumatran (Malay and Batak) folk songs as well as new compositions drawing on traditions from around the world.
Irwan and Ritha have been in Wellington on a three-month artist residency with WARE (Wellington Asian Residency Exchange), a programme sponsored and organised by the Wellington City Council and Asia:New Zealand Foundation in collaboration with the New Zealand School of Music. This is a special farewell concert for Irwan and Ritha and guest performers include Dan Poynton (piano), Brian James (shakuhachi) and Sanjay Dixit (tabla).
As well as compositions by Irwan, including a new work for gamelan, the concert features premieres of compositions, After Chopin by Jack Body, Philip Dadson and Mazurka 40 by John Rae (current CNZ-Jack Richards Composer in Residence at NZSM).
