Jazz on a spring afternoon

Concert

In 2007 Michael Houston recorded the highly acclaimed "Inland":http://sounz.org.nz/manifestations/show/8077, which received the Tui Award for the best Classical Album of the year. This is a solo album of compositions by New Zealand composers and includes 12 musically descriptive pieces by NZ jazz pianist Mike Nock, a selection of which Michael is presenting at this concert – a rare, and not to be missed, opportunity to hear Michael performing jazz influenced compositions in an informal setting.

Opening the programme, The McLaughlan – McCormick Quartet, a group of Manawatu's finest jazz musicians, led from the piano by Ian McLaughlan, accompanied by saxophonist Johnny McCormick, Terry Tawharu (bass) and Ted Frickleton (drums) will present their selection of jazz standards. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and for a very worthy cause.
