The Karlheinz Company enters its fourth decade having developed a reputation for stimulating programmes and performances dedicated to music of our time.
For 2009, Creative New Zealand has provided funding for this University of Auckland ensemble to commission new works from Alison Grant and Samuel Holloway, young international prize-winning composers who are both former students of the School of Music. As a result Alison Grant’s Laying In / Laying Out for ensemble and Samuel Holloway’s Impossible Songs for soprano and string quartet will receive premieres in this concert.
The remainder of the programme includes Fragment by Leonie Holmes, Boris Tischenko’s Sonata No 5 for solo pianoforte performed by Deng Liang and works by James Tenney, and Søren Nils Eichberg.
