Music Director Marc Taddei opens with Jack Body’s Pulse, exploring our fascination with pulse in music, underpinned here by a dynamic Papua New Guinean fire dance.
Michael Houstoun performs in the high-spirited First Piano Concerto by the ambitious young Beethoven who, at the time had musical Vienna at his feet.
As a complete contrast, the programme concludes with Janácek’s Sinfonietta, a large-scale and exuberant orchestral tour de force in which the Central Band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force join the Vector Wellington Orchestra.
Free pre-concert talk one hour prior to the performance.
