Biography
Joshua gained a Bachelor's degree in composition at the University of Auckland studying under Eve de Castro-Robinson. His music has been performed by the NZ Double Reed Society, the NZ Trio, by pianist Pascal Harris, workshopped by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and at the Nelson Composer's Workshop.His orchestral work willy wonka dekor was recorded by the Westlake Symphony Orchestra as part of the 2019 SOUNZ Community Project.
Joshua has a background performing on double bass and cello and has dabbled in various other instruments throughout his life, including viola, piano, marimba and electric guitar. His current interests in composition are electroacoustic media, mixed chamber ensembles, unusual instrumental combinations and mixing other artistic mediums with music.
Joshua's major influences include Dutilleux, Takemitsu, Messiaen, the New York School, Gil Evans and genres as varied as spectralism, Baroque, art pop, jazz fusion and IDM.
