Grace Ashworth-Lawson

Born: 2000

Grace Ashworth-Lawson (b.2000) is a Wellington-born composer, artist, and filmmaker. Spellbound by the spirit of screen, Grace has pursued all elements of film throughout her lifetime since a young age, finding herself especially drawn to its music and production. With a background in classical piano and jazz saxophone, Grace’s scores colourfully blend the two genres, enriched by outside influences such as alternative electronica and synth pop. Her music features original melodies over lush, compelling harmony, resulting in a vivid and soulful signature sound.

Grace has scored a variety of short films including Cottage (2020), Locked (2022), Hide and Seek (2022), and the full-length film Three Perspectives of a Murder directed by Brandon Entwhistle, which was screened at the New Zealand Fringe Festival 2022. In 2018 she and her band were winners of the National DisCOVERed competition, competed as finalists in the National Smokefree Rockquest competition, and was named a finalist for the Goodtime Music Academy Award for the Arts in the same year.

Since 2019, Grace has studied composition and film production at Victoria University and Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music. She is now a freelance composer, filmmaker, and teacher of music.
