Biography
Michael Booth is a trumpeter, composer and teacher. As a teenager he played in the Waikato Youth Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra, Waikato Big Band, and he went to to record and tour with Netherworld Dancing Toys, Cats Away, Dave Dobbyn and Howard Morrison.
Booth moved to Europe in 1989, where he performed with the Dutch Jazz Orchestra De Dijle (Dutch pop) and returned to New Zealand in 2007, where he founded the Auckland Jazz Orchestra in 2009. His CV includes time in the Rodger Fox Big Band, the funk outfit Collision, more recently with John Key on his Dune Dancing album, Sola Rosa's terrific Chasing the Sun and with Frank Gibson Jnr and others in the New Bop Quintet and the third album with the Auckland Jazz Orchestra.
Michael Booth has taught at the Rotterdam and Alkmaar Conservatories and now teaches trumpet and arranging at the Auckland and Massey University Schools of Music.
