Biography
Cameron divides his time between teaching on the Bachelor of Musical Arts degree at Ara Music Arts (formally CPIT Jazz School) and working as an established performer, composer and arranger in Christchurch and around New Zealand.
As a trumpeter, Cameron has performed with many New Zealand and overseas artists such as Diana Krall, The Chico O’Farrell Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, David Berkman, Dave Dobbyn, Bic Runga, Golden Horse, Hayley Westenra, Anika Moa, Midge Marsden, Dame Melvina Major, Sir Howard Morrison, Tina Cross, Frankie Stevens, Jackie Clarke, Phil Madsen, Beth Hart, Petula Clarke and Bobby Shew.
Cameron’s arranging and composition credits cover a variety of musical genres and include projects with Dave Dobbyn, Julia Deans, Sir Howard Morrison, Tim Beveridge, Ali Harper, Symposium, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Vector Wellington Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonic, Showbiz Christchurch and numerous theatre companies around New Zealand.
As well as a Bachelor of Musical Arts from CPIT, Cameron has a Master of Arts degree from Queens College, City University of New York where he studied with luminaries such as Michael Phillip Mossman, Antonio Hart and David Berkman.
Cameron has released an album called Long Tones in Moderation – a jazz duo album with the exceptional New York pianist David Berkman. He is also the author of Modern Etudes for Solo Trumpet, published by Sher Music.
