Prince Tui Teka
Māori Music Month feature

Prince Tui Teka (Ngai Tuhoe) was a prolific musical entertainer and actor who started his career in the Māori Showbands era of the 1960s through to his successful solo television show in the 1980s. His ability to engage with wide audiences throughout New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific and Europe was hugely successful. Outside of his musical talent, one of his special qualities was his comedic humour.

Born Tumanako "Tui" Teka in Ruatahuna, Aotearoa, he was better known by his stage names "Tui Latui" or Prince Tui Teka. Tui was a member of The Maori Troubadours and Maori Volcanics Showband before having a successful solo career and one of his musical highlights was his Gold-selling record 'E Ipō' written in the reo Māori by Ngoi Pewhairangi.
