Applications are now open for the NZSO | SOUNZ Tarling Trust Composer Commission 2024, closing on 12 August 2024.
The NZSO | SOUNZ Tarling Trust Composer Commission is a collaboration between the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music, with support from the Nicholas Tarling Charitable Trust.
This project is an opportunity for emerging and early-career composers to compose a new work for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra that will be programmed as part of the orchestra’s 2025 concert series. The commission consists of a grant of $10,500 for the composition of the work, and accommodation and travel expenses related to the rehearsal and performance of the work. The performance of the commissioned work will be filmed and recorded by the partnering organisations, and this film will be made available on SOUNZ platforms. Please note that we are unable to confirm a date for completion/publication of this recording. Rehearsal for the commissioned work will take place between 28-31 May 2025, with the premiere performance on 31 May 2025 (venue to be confirmed).
Applications from composers should be emailed to coordinator@sounz.org.nz by 5pm Monday 12 August 2024.
