Howard Morrison was a great ambassador for New Zealand Music, the Māori show bands era and later as a solo artist and New Zealand icon. One of his defining moments was singing Whakaari Mai at the Royal Command Performance when Queen Elizabeth returned to New Zealand in 1981 and this song remained at number 1 on the NZ Music Charts for five weeks and remained in the charts for over six months.
