- NZSQ: Ten
- 7 March 2010 4:00 PM
NZSQ present a 200-year view of the string quartet, with works written in 1810, 1910 and 2010.
These include: Schubert: Quartet in g Minor/Bb major and Beethoven: String Quartet No. 11 in f minor Opus 95 (both 1810); Alban Berg: String Quartet Opus 3 (1910) and the world premiere of Ross Harris The Abiding Tides (2010).
This latter work, in which NZSQ are joined by Jenny Wollerman (soprano), is a setting of poems by Vincent O’Sullivan. These songs express the high hopes and the desperation of those who sank in the Titanic nearly 100 years ago and those illegal immigrants who continue to lose their lives at sea.
Ross and Vincet present a free pre-concert talk about the art of collaboration and using words in chamber music at 1:15pm in the Ilott Theatre.
This concert is part of the New Zealand International Arts Festival Chamber Music weekend.
