Sherry Grant’s poem "Avec Amour" poetically describes the viola d’amore as a marriage of “modern with antiquity”, and as an instrument that speaks with a rarely heard voice these days.
“Avec Amour” was written at the request of violist Donald Maurice.
The poem begins....
a true rarity in this age
she speaks, in a unique
haunting voice, her wisdom
soft, articulate, she leads
my stray spirit, my wandering
heart out of clamorous reality,
into uncharted dimension
for Donald Maurice
