Twilight is found in the manuscript collection of Julia Kearins (1886–1949) in the Alexander Turnbull Library. Kearins, also a singer, accumulated largely hand-copied music by various, mainly foreign composers. The collection is dated 1904, but it is impossible to determine whether the music was copied all at once or accumulated over time. She must have known the composer in order to have gotten the song to copy. She lived and performed in Palmerston North in the 1920s, and Hodges sang there several times between 1908 and 1923, so some acquaintance is possible. The collection was donated to the Alexander Turnbull Library by Kearin's niece, Mary Ann Lindsay.
