About

Inspired by a traditional apakura, this lament expresses the pain of the whānau pani - the grieving family left behind. It speaks of the influence of the loved one but acknowledges the legacy that will survive in those who have been inspired by that person.

Written originally for Kevin Jarrett, a leader within the brass band community of Aotearoa, the piece was performed at the funeral of Aaron Tokona, a legendary guitarist and human being.
