Something Up is an up-tempo swing number written in response to a band member proposing that I write ‘something up’ (meaning at a faster tempo), due to my tendency to write ballads and mellow, slow tunes. My approach to arranging it for the Noveltones was inspired by the 1950s and 60s West Coast jazz stylings of artists such as Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker.
