These five short pieces are specially composed for the Nelson Symphony Orchestra 50th Anniversary.
Each piece is based on a short evocative poem written by the composer. The poems containing Nelsonian images are modelled on the Japanese literary form the 'haiku'.
Sacred Dawn - before the sun, a hint of specked chant.
Tidal Surge - the tide rises and surges over the cycle track
Dancing Trees - buffeted, the trees dance a thousand steps
Astrolabe - calm the roadstead, a distant hornpipe approaches
Reefs and Riffs - the sea swirls over the reefs glimpsing a joyful song
Suitable for amateur orchestra.
