About

Written in 1979 to celebrate the bar mitzvah of Timothy Fox, For Timothy is in four short movements. The middle two movements are based on two folksongs: Binnorie, O Binnorie, a Scottish songs dating from the 1650's telling the story of fatal jealousy between two sisters and Buy Broom Buzems a ballad from Northumbria supposedly written by Willian "Blind Willie" Purvis, but also with connections to Robert Burns. The two folksongs are preceded by a Prelude, which is repeated as a Postlude.
