Writing the score for The Maori Merchant of Venice was a 'labour of love', according to Clive Cockburn who composed and produced the film music. Themes explored include Hairoka's (Shylock's) Jewish roots. Hirini Melbourne, who composed and performed the Maori music and songs, provides the soundtrack with some unique traditional Maori ambience. Flamenco guitarist Carole Hempton adds the Spanish influence for the music of the Prince of Arakona (Aragon).
