Music in the Round

Concert

Monash University Academy of Performing Arts host a very special event: Music in the Round. One afternoon, 20 concerts, six magnificent venues and a musical experience like no other. Indulge in a whole world of music!

From 12:30– 6pm sets of hour long concerts will be performed in various venues around the campus. Audiences can choose from a wide selection of music: orchestra, jazz, chamber music, new music, choral and vocal or 'family' concerts.

Among the 20 concerts on offer will be From Across the Tasman at 3pm in the Religious Centre venue.

Artistic Director Jeremy Crellin was guest adjudicator at the 2009 "Gisborne International Music Competition":http://www.gisbornemusiccompetition.com/. He was so impressed with the New Zealand music played there that he has instituted a new exchange. The winner of the 'Best Performance of a New Zealand Work' at the Gisborne Competition will be invited to perform at Monash.

The winner of this award in 2009 was cellist Tasmin Kreymborg playing Gillian Whitehead's the Journey of Matuku Moana. She will perform this work again here at Music in the Round along with Gareth Farr's Shadow of the Hawk, and Michael Williams' Vertigo . She will then be joined with other musicians from the Monash School of Music in a performance of Villa-Lobos Bachianas Brasilieris No. 1 for 8 cellos.
