Benita Tahuri

Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāi Tuhoe

Benita Jean Tahuri was born in Wairoa and is a composer based in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. A proud descendant of Ngāi Tuhoe, Ngāti Kahungunu and Brian Boru (the last reigning King of Ireland) and also celebrates her English heritage.

Her compositions are played by the group NRG Rising, an all female family reggae trio that includes her two daughters, Anahera-Pono Tahuri-Whakatope and Honey Tahuri-Whakatope. NRG Rising have toured extensively overseas, nourishing an international indigenous connection through music whilst highlighting key important issues both in New Zealand and abroad.

In addition to being a composer, Benita has a background in education and the business coaching sector.
